The Role

As a Trainee Accountant, you will join the Financial Compliance team, supporting the preparation of client accounts while learning about the regulatory requirements that govern financial services in the UK.

You’ll gain practical exposure to bookkeeping, reconciliations, and compliance checks that form the foundation of professional accounting work. Alongside technical training, you’ll learn about Anti-Money Laundering (AML) procedures, ethical accounting, and how financial reporting ties into national regulation and client due diligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with bookkeeping, ledger management, and preparation of financial statements
  • Support month-end reconciliations and ensure transactions are accurately recorded
  • Help perform client due diligence and compliance verification checks in line with AML guidelines
  • Liaise with clients to gather financial documents and clarify queries regarding reports or invoices
  • Maintain organised digital records for audit preparation and compliance purposes
  • Monitor financial transactions to identify potential discrepancies or irregularities
  • Collaborate with senior accountants and compliance officers on client assignments
  • Stay informed on UK accounting standards, regulatory updates, and ethical guidelines

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements:

  • No degree required; passion for accounting, financial integrity, and professional growth is essential
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills when liaising with clients and colleagues
  • Basic familiarity with spreadsheets and accounting systems (Excel, Xero, or QuickBooks preferred)
  • Interest in learning about UK financial regulation, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and client due diligence standards
  • Must either hold, or be in the process of completing, an AML certification or a CPD-accredited qualification related to financial compliance or regulatory accounting
  • Commitment to ethical conduct, confidentiality, and accuracy in all work

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous work or internship experience in administration, finance, or customer support
  • Awareness of FCA conduct rules, compliance procedures, or GDPR principles
  • Motivation to pursue an accounting or compliance qualification, such as AAT or similar
  • Eagerness to grow within a regulated environment where accountability and precision are highly valued
