Job Description

We are seeking an experienced User Experience Expert with strong expertise in Drupal and Angular to join our dynamic team and contribute to large-scale international projects for the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT). The successful candidate will possess a blend of technical skills, problem-solving ability, and a passion for user-centered design, ensuring innovative, accessible, and user-friendly digital solutions that adhere to EU standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

User Experience:

  • Analyze business needs and translate them into effective UX solutions.
  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative UX research and analysis.
  • Design and refine user interfaces and services for online content, ensuring a seamless user experience.

Front-End Development:

  • Build and customize Twig templates for Drupal (themes and components).
  • Develop and maintain CKEditor custom components.
  • Design, develop, and maintain dynamic Angular front-end components and applications.

API Integration:

  • Integrate RESTful APIs for dynamic data retrieval and presentation.

Accessibility and Standards Compliance:

  • Ensure adherence to accessibility standards such as WCAG for diverse, multilingual audiences.
  • Optimize performance and usability across devices and platforms for an inclusive user experience.

Collaboration and Documentation:

  • Work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Maintain clear, structured, and comprehensive project documentation.

Qualifications

We are looking for highly skilled professionals with the following qualifications, knowledge, and expertise:

Technical Skills:

  • Proven Drupal expertise (preferably Drupal 8/9/10), including theming, Twig templates, and custom module development.
  • Proficiency with Angular (latest versions) and strong knowledge of component-based architecture, services, and modules.
  • Advanced skills in HTML5CSS3SASSJavaScript, and Typescript.
  • Familiarity with modern front-end tooling (e.g., Webpack, npm).
  • Experience with multilingual and internationalization setups (i18n) for global projects.

UX/UI Skills:

  • Strong understanding of responsive and adaptive design principles.
  • Ability to translate wireframes and prototypes into functional, interactive interfaces.
  • Deep familiarity with usability and accessibility standards, including WCAG.

Version Control & Collaboration:

  • Hands-on experience with Git (GitHub/GitLab), with the ability to work within Agile/Scrum workflows using tools like JIRA and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with Docker or other containerization tools is a plus.

Problem Solving and Debugging:

  • Strong debugging skills within Drupal and Angular environments.
  • Familiarity with browser developer tools and front-end performance optimization.

Documentation and Communication:

  • Excellent communication skills tailored to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Clear and structured documentation abilities.

Education and Certifications

  • A minimum of Level 7 of the European Qualification Framework, typically equivalent to a Master’s degree with at least 5 years of study.
  • At least 10 years of experience in key areas such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and associated libraries (e.g., jQuery, Ajax, JSON, GSAP).
  • At least 5 years of expertise in Drupal theming and Angular/Typescript.
  • Proven experience or certifications in usability and accessibility standards, such as WCAG.
