About your team: 

At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it.   

We’re the household heroes powering 1 in 3 homes in the UK – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK’s homes greener and more energy efficient, together with our friends at Hive. By using their clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier to reduce your home’s carbon-footprint. And with our Peak Save programme, we’re actively rewarding better energy use too.

Key accountabilities:

• Create and maintain several customer journeys within the BG S&S estate 
• Work in an agile environment with a dynamic and highly skilled team
• Review and enhance existing functionality, ensuring it is performant
• Write and maintain a suite of automated tests that ensure the robustness of our system

As a Senior Software Engineer you will have additional responsibilities of:  

• Drive innovation and mentor 
• Helping to architect, build and maintain a new modern framework and front-end system
• Aid in creating strong coding standards 
• Ensure services operationally sound and encourage the mantra, “you build it, you run it” 

Experience required:

• Highly Experienced with ReactJS and at least one other JavaScript framework 
• Highly Experienced with Typescript and CSS 
• Highly Experienced with Git or other DVCSs 
• Experienced with test frameworks at different levels of integration. 
• Experience of working in an agile environment 
• Experience in designing robust, highly scalable systems.  
• Confidence leading code reviews 
• Knowledge of performance best practices
